- Online Learning This module introduces teachers to the techniques and skills of developing and delivering online learning. It is intended to demonstrate the many benefits of using modern technology in the teaching process and to provide access to online resources that will help teachers to gain practical experience in the effective support of online learners.
- Facebook for Teachers This module explores how the Facebook social networking website can be used in education. It is aimed at teachers who are relatively new to social networking and will demonstrate how such applications can be used to engage with modern learners who already use the same tools in their social lives.
- Blogging for Teachers This Module is designed to introduce and develop teachers’ competencies in using blogs and micro blog services on the web. This is aimed at teachers with little or no knowledge or experience in using blogs and will demonstrate the key features of each and how they can benefit both teaching and learning.
- Document Sharing for Teachers This module is designed for those who wish to collaborate, share and edit documents online. There are five sessions with a series of practical exercises for you to complete as you work through the resources. The main focus is Google Docs, which is a popular online document collaboration tool. However Slideshare and Scribd which provide similar functionality are also discussed. There are a lot of advantages in sharing documents online, especially for students who are engaged in group work or for tutors are collaborating with colleagues or managers.
- Photo Sharing for Teachers This module is designed to introduce and develop teachers’ competencies in the use of photo sharing applications on the web. It is aimed at teachers with no or little knowledge or experience of using photo sharing websites and will demonstrate how key features can benefit learning and teaching. For this particular unit, one of the most prominent providers, Flickr will be used, with some references being made to other providers.
- Video Sharing for Teachers This module explores how video sharing websites, including YouTube, the free online video social networking website can be used in education. It is aimed at teachers who are relatively new to social networking and will demonstrate how such applications can be used to engage with modern learners who already use the same tools in their social lives. There are five learning sessions and a series of practical exercises for you to complete as you work through the module. The focus is on topics that will equip the teacher with the knowledge and skills to develop interactive learning activities for use with their students both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Social Bookmarking for Teachers This module is designed to introduce and develop teachers’ competencies in using social bookmarking tools, a method for storing, organising and sharing your favourite websites online. It is aimed at teachers with no or little knowledge or experience of using social bookmarking tools and will demonstrate how key features can benefit learning and teaching. For this particular module, one of the most prominent providers; delicious, will be used, with an introduction to some of the other popular providers.
- Wikis for Teachers This module focuses on developing collaborative learning experiences using wikis (a collection of web pages that can be edited by anyone). There are many public wikis available on the Internet and the principles taught can be applied to any wiki.
The module provides a range of wide range of resources for f setting up and managing wikis, ideas for collaborative online activities and case studies of wikis in practice as well as discussion on the educational and organisational use of them.
- Web 2.0 Communications for Teachers This module is designed to introduce and develop an understanding and use of Web 2.0 communications on the Internet. It is aimed at teachers with little or no experience in using Web 2.0 communications tools and will demonstrate the key features of each and how they can benefit both teaching and learning.
- Web 2.0 for Institutional Managers This module explores how Web 2.0 services are increasingly being used in the management of educational institutions. It is designed to inform educational managers about the ways that wikis, blogs, resource sharing services, online communications and a range of social networking applications are being used for management purposes. The module demonstrates how the use of Web 2.0 tools encourages collaborative working and effective engagement with staff across the institution.
